Designing Maps With Data in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

Tuesday, 4:45 pm – 5:00 pm Central

In this presentation by Avenza Systems, we will be designing a map using geographic data in both MAPublisher for Adobe Illustrator and Geographic Imager for Adobe Photoshop—the industry-standard cartography solution preferred by map designers. We’ll add data into a map document and discuss how our mapping tools seamlessly fit into both design environments. We’ll also show how data can be managed, moved around like other layers in Illustrator, and transform map data on-the-fly so its features with the other geographic data on the map. In addition, we’ll highlight how attribute data can be used to easily style areas, lines, and points using stylesheets to automate some of the traditionally time-consuming steps of map-making. In Geographic Imager, we’ll demonstrate how quick and easy it is to add terrain shading to an image and export it as a location-aware file that can be added to the map in Illustrator. Lastly, we’ll finish the map by adjusting map feature styles and creating some surrounding map elements. By the end of the video, you’ll be able to get a sense of how easily you can work with geographic data as familiar layers and images while maintaining precise real-world accuracy. We’re excited to show you these tools and we hope to hear from you soon about how you can get started.

Survey results and demonstration

Wednesday, 4:45 pm – 5:00 pm Central

Design teams working in the same office or scattered throughout the globe all struggle with managing assets and files within projects. To assess the magnitude of this issue, Santa Cruz Software commissioned a study of 500 design professionals to better understand their experiences. One theme was clear – 97% believe their jobs would be easier if the latest version of every embedded asset was easily identifiable. In fact, well over a quarter (28%) of respondents said it would be “extremely easier.” In this session, we’ll review the results of this recent survey (Feb 2020). We’ll also demonstrate our solution using LinkrUI. LinkrUI is a best-in-class extension to Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign that enables direct searching, opening, placing and synchronizing of assets stored in a Digital Asset Manager (DAM) system or other storage services, such as Box and Dropbox. All of this can be done from within Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.

InDesign Productivity Tools – Preview and Conversion

Monday, 12:30 pm – 12:45 pm Central

In this presentation from Markzware, we will be highlighting InDesign productivity through the use of our preview, conversion and file information tools. Many will know the first part of the demonstration, Q2ID (Quark to InDesign) and PDF2DTP (PDF to InDesign). We will, in particular with PDF2DTP, show some cool things you can do to open multi-page PDF documents as new InDesign layouts.

The meat of the video will be on our new “Markz” line of stand-alone applications. This will be highlighted with our newly available IDMarkz, which is an easy and effective way to preview, export and transition your InDesign files. Exporting, as a stand-alone process, from a native .INDD file to IDML is very handy and you’ll see why.

We will also highlight our most popular feature in this new app, the InDesign to Affinity Publisher “open in” function! We will show several useful recipes you can create in your InDesign workflow with IDMarkz.

Lastly, we round off with a technology preview of the rest of the Markzware lineup, being QXPMarkz, PDFMarkz and OmniMarkz. We look forward to hearing from you!
