Engaging Interactive Documents

Tuesday, 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

InDesign has several different features for adding interactivity to your documents, including buttons, slideshows, and animation. But these features have been around a long time, and sometimes you need to think outside the box to use them effectively. In this session, we’ll take a look at the “trickery” involved in producing a series of interactive effects, using some obvious, and not-so-obvious techniques. If you’ve tried InDesign’s interactive features and found them lacking, join this session and look again.

We’ll cover techniques for creating:

  • animated bar charts
  • a hamburger menu for navigation
  • “panning” image stills
  • pop-up windows

The Adobe Trifecta: InDesign + Photoshop + Illustrator

Tuesday, 10:30 am – 11:30 am

Creative Cloud’s design apps are a trio that has many similarities to a musical ensemble—and InDesign is the rhythm section that brings it all together harmoniously. Tony Harmer has a deep specialism in CC interoperability and can show you how it all meshes together, how to get the most out of your production files and what you can use for greater flexibility and efficiencies. This subject is the key to the most powerful features that can be used in document production workflows—automation—and even if you’re working in isolation there’s benefit to be realised in this way of working smarter, not harder.

Illustrator Deep Dive

Tuesday, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

You might be thinking… I know the basics of Illustrator, but I just don’t get it, there are so many tools! You can draw shapes, select objects and change colors, but you know there’s so much more.

In this 3 hour session, we’ll expand on the basics and explore some elusive Illustrator tools and tricks. Learn to draw and modify shapes more efficiently with shortcuts, combine shapes together, and really control the fill and stroke of objects. We’ll use the Appearance Panel to add multiple strokes, effects and more to your type and shapes. We’ll draw and edit paths with the many drawing tools, including the sometimes puzzling pen tool. We’ll create real logos & infographics using the shape builder tool, pathfinder, join commands and other tools in Illustrator that you’ve poked around with, simply hoping that they would work. Selecting and modifying an illustration or logo can be tricky, especially if you didn’t originally create the graphic. We’ll dig into the many selection tools, commands and methods to make modifications to any graphic more understandable.

Other topics:

  • Ace the align and distribute panel
  • Transform tool tricks
  • Select & recolor objects quickly
  • Demystify clipping masks
  • Appearance panel – why it should always be in reach
  • and more!
